Beware the Grossman
Guess I'd better round up last nights pre season games, with a good chance that by the time I'm done tonight's games will have finished as well.
Bills 17 @ Redskins 42: Naturally everyone wants to talk about McNabb and his 5/8 for 58 yards and a TD. I don't. I want to yell "BEWARE THE GROSSMAN"!!! 11/18 for 140 yards and 2 TDs. Damn. The other funny thing I noticed was everyone talking about C.J. Spillers performance. Yeah it was ok for a start. 4 carries, 16 yards, 11 of them on one carry. I was expecting him to see more action which was disappointing, but why is nobody talking about Chad Simpson. 7 carries, 67 yards. That's pretty darn good right there. And what about Joique Bell, with 5 carries for 52 yards and a TD?
Ah well, just got to accept the fact that if a player isn't a big money superstar then nobody from media land cares.
Jaguars 27 @ Eagles 28: Oh look, it's the same thing again. All the buzz after this game was about Kevin Kolb, Mike Kafka and Mike Vick. Nobody seems to have noticed Luke McCown. But then why would you? 11/15 for 244 yards and three TDs? Bah, that's nothing. Credit also to Eagles RB Martell Mallett, not least for his parents excellent taste in names. Also for his 15 carries for 60 yards and a TD. Most pleasing though was seeing rookie Eagles DT Jeff Owens, who I've had my eye on for a while (I believe I mentioned him at some point recently), getting a sack-fumble. Keep it up Jeff.
Chiefs 10 @ Falcons 20: Credit to the Chiefs for.... ok, doing nothing remarkable. Nice to see Falcons RB Michael Turner chalk up 5 more yards on just 4 carries than Jason Snelling managed on 11. And who the hell is Dimitri Nance? No idea, but he clocked 2 TDs, so well done. Whoever you are. Other than that, pretty unremarkable game.
Ahhh, what's this? Bucs'/Dolphins has just finished.
Buccaneers 7 @ Dolphins 10: Wow, intense game. Chad Henne rocking the field with 5/11 for 19 yards, while Tyler Thigpen sports 10/19 for 145 yards. Josh Freeman steals the show with 4/4 for 53 and a TD, while backup Josh Johnson seems determined to question my expectations of him as a promising young QB by going 8/13 for 72 yards but with an INT. Meanwhile back on Terra Firmer, I see Derrick Ward is proving everyone in New York wrong big time.... by racking up 20 yards on 12 carries. It must have been disheartening to see Cadillac Williams surpass him on just 4 carries.
Looking at the other games in progress
>>> Detroit @ Pittsburgh looks shockingly boring. Funny though how Dennis Dixon has thrown just one pass and yet managed to pick up more yards than Byron Leftwich has from ten.
>>>Browns @ Packers sees Colt McCoy learning fast from Jake Delhomme, two interceptions already! Seneca Wallace 4/8 for 72 yards and 2 TDs. Aaron Rodgers 12/13 159 yards and a TD.
>>>Texans @ Cardinals, currently 10-0. Slow start for Matt Leinart and so far Derek Anderson is inspiring confidence in his team mates by throwing two interceptions. Texans DE Mario Williams has two sacks, and rookie LB Darryl Sharpton has already made 7 solo tackles with an interception added for good measure.
>>>Vikings @ Rams, 21-7 Vikings so far. Sage Rosenfels 23/32 for 310 yards and 3 TDs. Vikings D has already generated 5 sacks.
>>>Bears@ Chargers and Cutler has thrown two.... passes. No picks yet. It's only half time though. I see that so far the Bears running game is looking just as ineffectual as it was last season.
And finally just enough time to look ahead to tomorrows pre-season games.
49ers @ Colts: The greatest team on Earth right now takes on the Colts in Indianapolis, whilst I spend the night with Kelly Brook. Meanwhile in the real world the 49ers travel to Indianapolis. Keep your eyes out for '9ers FB Brit Miller, whose praises I think I've sung enough lately. Then we have what could become the new tradition of the annual Curtis Painter meltdown. It's his second season so maybe he has the offense down now? Can't wait to see how a) Mike Iupati fits into the 49ers O-line and b) how badly the Colts O-line gets mauled in the press if they so much as give up a QB hit.
Broncos @ Bengals: Let's put it this way, it can't get worse than the HOF game for the Bengals can it? Oh that's right, it did for the Cowboys. Naturally Tim Tebow will come under intense scrutiny, as will all of the Broncos QBs as the non-existent race for the starting job continues to get blown out of all proportion. On the other side of the field the very real race for the Bengals number three/four WR spots continues.
Have a great day everyone.
P.S. As you all know, I'm a very humble and generous man (shut up, I am). So I present to you Seasick Steve.... just because it's fun to tap your foot to.

Is that guy missing some strings? He's gotta have some kind of back story...
If your talking about Seasick Steve then yes, his guitar only has three strings on it. And yeah, he has a hell of a backstory.
If you're talking about Rex Grossman, then I don't know.
Nicely done, Chris.
